Lawn Maintenance

Lawn mowing and maintenance is the basis of our work here at Country Green. We plant, mow and maintain lawns for single family homes, condo developments and commercial properties.

At Country Green our team understands that i the hot summer months it’s important to be careful not to mow the grass too short, or too often. Cutting the grass too short will hurt your lawn and it can even promote the growth of weeds and lawn diseases. Leaving grass clipping on the lawn will help to protect your yard and it will also put back nutrients into you lawn and reduce the need for fertilizers.

In some cases, it could be a good idea to have us aerate your lawn. That just means we will come in and make tiny holes and they in turn will allow more water and nutrient into the soils. It’s usually best to have us test the moisture level in your soils first. That way we can make certain the aeration will truly be effective for your lawn.

No matter what type of property you have, it’s always a good idea to keep your lawn looking green and lush, and to have some plants and colorful flowers in your landscape theme. A neatly trimmed, green and healthy lawn makes a great first impression on people who visit your home or business.

About Sod Installation

Sod Installation is something best left to pros like us at Country Green Landscaping and Lawn Services. It is however, a good thing to know about the process of installing Sod, even if you are planning to hire it out to Country Green.

This post at Central Sod Farms, Inc has a step by step approach which you may find helpful:

   Installing the Sod

Once you finish your prep work, its time to install your new lawn. Our sod will provide years of enjoyment for your friends and family!

Create a plan

Its best to take a minute or two and create a mental plan on how you are going to install the sod. Some things to consider:

  • It’s best to start in an area that is further away and work towards you; this prevents you from walking repeatedly on fresh sod that you just laid.
  • Start on a straight edge such as a fence row, sidewalk, house, or driveway. This will ensure less cutting and make the job look nicer once complete
  • If you have a steep hill, its best to lay sod across the slope as opposed to up and down. Laying the seams up and down the slope could lead to soil erosion if heavy rain is experienced in the first two weeks
  • Consider the location of sprinklers/ hoses. If the weather is hot and dry, you will need to set up sprinklers as soon as you finish an area so that it gets water. Don’t wait for hours until the last pallet is installed to begin thinking about water!Stagger the new sod as you install

Lay the sod

Finally! With the prep work complete its time to see Real Grass, Real Fast. Follow these tips to install like a pro:

  • Sod can be easily cut using almost any knife, though a utility knife or linoleum knife is best.
  • Stagger the sod in a brickwork patter (see right). This makes it much harder to see the seams for the first two weeks and makes the installation look more professional.
  • Push the seams together tightly, but do not allow them to overlap.
  • Once a roll is unrolled, just slide it into place on the soil… It is much easier than lifting!Use a roller on uneven surfaces

(Optional) Use a hand roller on the new turf

A roller ensures good soil to soil contact between the sod and your soil. Air pockets are bad for new sod because they allow the sod to dry out much more quickly.

  • Use a walk behind roller
  • Go over the area twice (use different directions)
  • Do not roll the area excessively as it will cause compaction problems.Watering is the most important part of sod installation

Watering

Watering is perhaps the most important part of the sod installation. Since sod needs time to develop its root system, watering must be frequent for the first two weeks

  • Water new sod within one hour of installing. For larger jobs, this means that you will have to set up a sprinkler in a finished area while you continue to lay sod elsewhere.
  • For the first two weeks after the 1st watering, the goal is to never allow the soil under the sod to dry out. In summer, this means watering up to 1.5″ inches daily. In winter, you may only have to water once every week.
  • It is hard to over-water new sod, but if you have puddles forming you should cut back as this is too much water.”

Sod is the most effecient way to a new lawn, but it’s not the only way. If you would like to discuss whether to use Sod on your yard, give us a call. We can help

Creating Curb Appeal

Creating Curb Appeal

According to HGTV, first impressions are everything – at least when it comes to selling your home. According to the National Association of Realtors, 63 percent of homebuyers will drop by after viewing a home they like online. If your home was for sale, what would they see?

Landscaping plays a major role in the curb appeal of any property. Overgrown lawns and shrubs leave the impression that the property is not well-maintained. In contrast, careful landscaping offers a clean, manicured look and is naturally more visually appealing. Adding some carefully arranged, well-tended shrubs, flowers, and greenery can be the finishing touch for creating curb appeal.

Just remember that if your home’s curb appeal makes a great first impression, everyone — including potential homebuyers — will want to see what’s inside. Low-voltage makes a huge impact on your home’s curb appeal while also providing safety and security. Fixtures can add accent lighting to trees or the house or can illuminate a walking path. If you aren’t able to use  that require wiring, install solar fixtures (but understand that their light levels are not as bright or as reliable).

But you have to have something for the lighting to highlight as as visual appeal during the day. Get  beds into shape by pruning growth, pulling weeds, planting flowers, and adding new mulch to restore that was taken away by sunlight and harsh weather. If stone or brick borders your bed, consider cleaning and resetting any pieces that are soiled or dislodged. If your border is old or tired-looking, try upgrading to stone or a decorative cast-concrete edging system for improved curb appeal.  Add contrast to your home exterior with a new planting bed. Prime spots for curb appeal are at the front corners of the yard, along driveways or walkways, and immediately in front of the house.

Small changes can totally transform the look and appeal of any property.  Not sure where to start?  We can help you make the most of your curb appeal today.

Lawn Services Sebastian

Mowing lawns here in Florida isn’t for everybody. That’s why I built Country Green Landscaping and Lawn Services. I have been working around lawns for as long as I can remember. When I saw the opportunity to establish my own Lawn Service and Landscape business, I jumped on it and have been going strong ever since.

There are lots of people with an old truck and a lawn mower who jump into the business. But most of them don’t last very long. I have been in this business for over 10 years now, and I am to stay around for a long time.

At Country Green Landscaping and Lawn Services, we have people on our staff who actually know what they are doing. Our Lawn Services include cutting your grass at the proper height. Edging shrubs and bushes and pruning plants in order for them to thrive during he year.

We have different plans for every household, including one a month, or once a week, or every other week mowing, edging and trimming services for your yard.

For a fee we will plant your flowers and bulbs to keep your yard looking bright and cheery.  Our staff will never just mow your lawn and head out.  It is our goal to always leave you with a lawn that looks well cared for and healthy.

We know that every lawn we care for is our calling card. People see the name of our company on our trucks and if we leave your lawn looking beautiful week after week, there is a good chance other home owners will give us a call and want to engage our services. by the same token, if, when we are through working on your lawn, it does not look good, that will cause people to use someone else.

Country Green Landscaping and Lawn Service cares about your lawn and landscape. Give us a call, we can discuss a plan for making your lawn look good.

Create a Destination in Your Yard

Here in Florida, the yard sizes can be quite large, and yet people don’t often spend time outside. Why is that? Some designers say it’s because there is nothing in the yard to draw people out of doors.

Early spring is a good time to install new sod. If your lawn is looking less than beautiful, it could be time to design a new landscape for your yard, and part of that new landscape design could be installing new sod.

Baby Boomers are getting to the point where they have had just about enough of mowing lawns and pulling weeds. They are retiring from their careers and looking to a little rest and relaxation, or it could be they are looking for some adventure and new experiences . Either way, they are NOT looking to spend more time mowing and maintaining their lawns.
